The Upside-Down Developmental Approach - Reason For Poor Development In Africa
By Nweke Ugochukwu Ebuka
For any nation to be developed, its leaders must take the following steps sequentially:-
1. Provision Of Education And Skill Acquisition For The People: This helps the people discover their talents and natural abilities, in ordeFor to contribute meaningfully to the society.
2. Creating Jobs For The people: This will help reduce unemployment, crime and corrupt practices.
3. Infrastructural Development: This helps people enjoy good living.
This is the 1-2-3 model.
Sadly, Africa and Nigeria leaders have created a 3-2-1 model. That is, they start from number 3, then to number 2 and then to number one.
The better leaders among them (the less/non-corrupt ones) prefer to develop the country first without developing the people.
This has been one of the reasons for the backwardness experienced in Africa as we always start from the bottom.
Nigeria and Africa should follow the 1-2-3 model when making budgetary plans and policies for better development of the society.
When the people are developed first, they will contribute their quota to the development of the society in the long-run.
